Frank Phipps Wright, 94, of Hixson passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008 in an area hospital. Mr. Wright was a veteran of the United States Army and was of the Methodist faith. Frank worked as an independent engineer for most of his life. He played an integral part in the 1960s movement to encourage Americans to recycle and conserve energy and our natural resources. He wrote several books, including 'How We Live and Breathe', National Resources Management Plan', and 'The Kingfisher'. His efforts earned him distinction of Arkansas Traveler in 1965. He was instrumental in the creation of the Mother's School Patrol in East Ridge, which became a model for school patrol safety throughout the country. His loving family and close friends knew Mr. Wright as Frank and Daddy. Frank was always willing to help anyone who asked, and gave of himself diligently, without asking for anything in return. His wonderful smile, gracious demeanor, and love for his family will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Bagwell Wright and Earl W. Wright; brother, Ernest Wright; sisters, Katherine Rhinehart, Ida Cooke, Elaine Cassell and Tillie Lapka. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth Toliver Wright of Hixson; sons, Earl W. Wright ll of Knoxville, Robert A. (Linda) Wright of Plant City, FL, Steve Wright of Red Bank and Carl (Lynn) Wright of Hixson; granddaughters, Amanda Wright of Gainesville, FL and Kayleigh Wright of Hixson; and several nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate the life of Frank Wright will be held at 12 noon on Monday, July 7, 2008 in the funeral home chapel. The family request that memorial contributions be made to, The Chattanooga Heart Institute, 2501 Citico Avenue Chattanooga, TN 37404.
