Around 1939-1942, as a young boy, I had the great opportunity to live on Granny's farm with uncle Frank when he was a young man. My father was called to active duty with the Army Reserves so my mother (Katherine, Uncle Franks oldest sister) and I moved to the farm near Chickamauga, Georgia. Uncle Frank introduced me to bobsledding, model airplane building, erector sets, making hot air balloons from tissue paper and snuff cans full of gasoline, how to make big firecrackers from the powder of little ones, and learning to drive his old car on the school playground. Uncle Franks was an excellent draftsman and engineer and his room looked more like a laboratory than a bedroom. He had articles published on environmental issues and met some NASA greats such as Warner Von Braun. Uncle Frank's exploits and experiments have been passed on to my kids and in turn to my grandkids. I am sure that he will be fondly remembered by present and future generations.

I always thought of Uncle Frank as our family's Renaissance Man. He seemed to absorb knowledge and information like a sponge. A sponge that was never full. I will miss him. I will miss his stories.

I wish so much that I could have been there with all of you today. Carl, that was an awesome tribute you wrote about your dad--I know how proud he is and always has been of you. And my dear, dear Aunt Ruth, I can only say that I love you so very, very much. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, Steve, Robert, Earl, and your families, and I miss so very much that I was not able to be with you.
