Obituary of Ernest Laron Holcomb

Ernest L. Holcomb, 81, of Soddy Daisy, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2006 in an area hospital. He was born in Albertsville, Alabama on May, 2nd 1925 and moved to the Chattanooga area in 1947. He was employed as a carpenter by Dupont and retired after 33 years. Ernie was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and a member of Daisy Lodge #706 F&AM . He was a decorated WWII Veteran that received the Bronze star, WWII Victory medal and Good Conduct medal. Ernie enjoyed the simple life, working in his garden, spending an afternoon fishing and enjoying time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and William Holcomb, sisters, Louise and Sarah, brothers, Bill and Wallace Holcomb. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Holcomb, brother, Jack Holcomb of Rocky Face, GA; daughter, Ernestine (Les) Heard of East Ridge; sons, Laron (Cindy) Holcomb, of Bentleyville, PA, Robert (Carol) Holcomb, Morris (Debbie) Holcomb, Michael (Jenny) Landreth, Allen (Louella) Landreth, Eddie (Sharon) Landreth, all of Soddy-Daisy. Several grandchildren, great-Grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 today, Friday, August 25, 2006 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Howard Gray officiating. Masonic services will follow in the chapel provided by Daisy Lodge #706 F&AM. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. Jim Holcomb, Bruce Holcomb, Taylor Riley, Carlos Smith, Jerome Holcomb, and Robert Worley will be serve as pallbearers. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4355 Hwy, 58., Suite 101, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
