The world lost a truly great man today. My heart goes out to Scottie, Jack, Jake, Sherry, Phil and Ailene as well as the rest of his family. He may be gone, but he is forever in the hearts of so many. Rest easy, cousin.
The Summerlin family are inspirational and resilient . Dan has always approached everyone he meets with a smile and hug or handshake. His family adopted mine when we moved to Chattanooga and from that day forward Dan was my brother, advice giver, and best of all my friend. We love you Summerlin's and Dano you will always live in my heart and will never be forgotten. Love ya Big Daddy
Scottie, Jack, and Jake, The way that your family approached this heartbreaking situation has truly been inspirational. I've never seen anything like the grace, love, and strength that you summoned throughout this. There are lots of people out there who talk the talk, but Dan was the rare soul that actually walked the walk. Although none of us can take away your pain, you have an entire community standing with you.
I worked with Dan briefly, but I will always remember his way of making sure he didn't leave you without a smile on your face. His was a wealth of music trivia and would try to test your knowledge of music by singing a line and asking an obscure question about the song. The funniest story I remember is when he signed up for a potluck event we were having. He created an account as "Dan Summerloincloth." We had a few laughs about that in the office, but he told me later that another a group he was involved in had an event using the same signup method. Since he had set up his account under the above name, it was now public! “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
