Obituary of Zachary Thomas Schafer

Zachary Thomas "Zach" Schafer, 15, of Sale Creek passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 while fulfilling his passion, running on the Cumberland Trail. Zach, a sophomore at Soddy-Daisy High School, loved being a part of the JROTC Raiders programs and umpiring at Middle Valley Youth Association. Zach was best known for his infectious smile and his strong loving hugs that touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. He was an active member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church Soddy Daisy Campus. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Maureen LaPoint. He is survived by his father, Steven (Amy) Schafer; mother, Janeanne (John Padgett) LaPoint; sisters, Alexandria Schafer and Megan Schafer; maternal grandparents, John and Betsy LaPoint; paternal grandparents, Harlan and Linda Schafer; step-brother, Nick Williams and step-sister, Neelie Williams. Funeral services will be held at 5:00PM on Sunday, May 21st at Stuart Heights Baptist Church Soddy-Daisy Campus with Rev. David Ivarson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12PM to 5PM on Sunday at Stuart Heights Baptist Church Soddy-Daisy Campus. Interment will be private in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
