I didn't know Zach at all. Only been to Soddy Daisy twice. While I was on my front porch today, in Georgia, a birthday balloon landed in my yard with a letter attached to it. Don't know who it was from or exactly who it was addressed to but the girl who wrote the letter mentioned "Zach Thomas" and was wishing him a happy 16th birthday. I would like to offer my condolences and can't even imagine the pain the family is going through. If you would like this letter or if you wrote this letter and want to know where it ended up, let me know.

I do not know Zach but, we lost my 15 year old grandson on December 24, 2011, and are still devastated. I work at United Way of Greater Chattanooga and was reading the obituaries and I was so sad to see your loss. It sounds like Zach was just a special young man like my grandson, Joseph, and I want you to know that I realize you will never "get over it" or quit missing him however, I will pray for you, every time I pray for our family. I ask the Lord to give you comfort, peace and strength to make it through this terrible time and in the future as you continue to grieve. I send you all my love and prayers. God bless, Becky Freeman.

I do not know you or Zach, I do work at TVA and I understand and sympathize with your pain and grief at this time. I lost my son suddenly at the age of 11 just 2 1/2 years ago. We knew Zach as a caring and polite young man. The last time we saw him was when his entire family drove to Syracuse NY for our family reunion. In July of 2015. Being long distance you don't get to know your family the same as if you live near by. Reading all the posts on social media and knowing how much his Mom and his grandparents talked about him, you know he's made his family proud in his too short of a life.
