Obituary of Doris Whitmire Caves

Doris Whitmire Caves, of Soddy Daisy, TN, passed away on April 9, 2017. Born October 6, 1928 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Charles Andrew Whitmire and Bertha Nannie Lou Frost Whitmire. She married Wayman D. Caves in April of 1946. She loved her family and playing softball, sewing and quilting. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy, a member of the Ladies Shriner’s Asebi Court No. 36 LOSNA, and the Daisy Chapter 328 Order of the Eastern Star. She retired after 30 years of employment with JC Penny. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter - Diane Caves Thompson, and siblings - Barbara Ogle, Clarence Lee Whitmire, and Laura Stuart; great-grandson, Dakotah Tubbs. She is survived by daughters, Vicki (Larry) Hamby, and Connie (Billie) Dreistadt; brother Roy Whitmire, Grandchildren Robin Peterson, Fred Bledsoe, and Erik Dreistadt, Wendy Dreistadt and Amanda Dreistadt; several Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Brother-in-Law David Stuart and Sister-in-Law Susan Whitmire. There will be private family memorial service, so no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you go and spend time with your loved ones, say a prayer, whatever you choose to do. The family wants to thank the staff at Manor House Assisted Living for the loving care given to Doris during her last years, and much appreciation and thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care of Chattanooga.
