Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In loving memory of Janice Hicks, 85, of Hixson, TN, we celebrate her eternal rest and reward. She passed on June 25, 2022, at the hospital with her family. She was born October 6, 1936, in Scranton, SC, and the daughter of Alton Emitt and Ferbia Barfield McCants. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ben Hicks, and daughter, Kathryn Lynn Pelonero. Survivors include her, daughter, Kandace (James) Tanner, daughter, Kimberly (Keith) Moss, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Known as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she wore many hats meeting the needs of her family. However, her greatest roles were protector, Bible Teacher, and a great prayer warrior. She protected her family with unwavering faith and love through the God she loved and served so faithfully. She encouraged and touched the hearts of many lives through what she lived, taught, and experienced in the manifestation of many miracles. Her prayer reached beyond the circle of her family, friends and to all those who came to her with petition. She is remembered as one who not only believed, but inspired others to follow the “Light and Love” of the God who never fails in walking that out with many battles, and triumphs. She was a defender of the gospel and would never waver in declaring the truth as absolute. Her family called her the “Rock of Gibraltar” and the glue that held the family together through every challenge and test faced because she knew where to run. She ran to the Rock and Strong Tower. (Psalm 61:2/Proverbs 18:10) She was a retired registered nurse and received her seminary degree from Logos Bible College in Jacksonville, Florida. She Pastored Lighthouse Church in Gastonia, NC, along with her husband, Ben Hicks until they retired and moved to Hixson, TN to be near their daughters. After moving to Tennessee, she continued to teach the gospel through Discipleship programs, and the Faith Builders Sunday School class at Daisy Church of God for many more years. She traveled foreign soil to the small village (Cusuna) in Honduras, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her heart’s desire was to serve, honor, and love God, and that all her family would know and follow Him. Her final words spoken prior to her passing were that I love you, and I am not afraid. She will be remembered as a mighty “Warrior of God”, who not only went through, but came through with God leading her home on that final journey to eternally ever after. She will be dearly missed by her family, and long remembered by those who knew her. Her seed shall continually bring increase through her family, friends, and the earth. Her plantings were many, and the wind carries and scatters to reproduce fruit to come in appointed season.
