We are saddened by this loss and will be praying for the family for God's comfort. Our hearts hurt but I know Sister Hicks is with Ben in heaven now. What a great woman of God who touched me and all those who were around her. I attended her Sunday School class for many years. My bible is filled with the note S.H and the date which means Sister Hicks and the date we covered that scripture. Her fire and love of God was apparent for anyone in the class. She was truly a woman of God. Her and Ben taught the class faithfully. They were a team who worked together flawlessly. He worked the computer for the presentation and she would teach. I grew as a Christian in the class. She was making me a true disciple but I didn't know it at the time. She asked me to teach for her one Sunday a month to give her a break. Only the truly brave set in the front row of the class and I taught with her in the class in attendance. She was very kind and inspired me to continue. As Ben's health required them to attend another church where their daughters could help them, she asked me to teach the class which I have faithfully done for years now. A smile comes to my face when I think of Sister Hicks because I know she is with the Lord and as a believer I will see her again. Her love of the Lord inspires me to this day. She will be greatly missed but I cherish the blessing that I have received for having known her and I am thankful to God for him putting her in my life.

My time with bro and sis Hicks was brief but powerful. I had prayed for a mentor, a Christian that would challenge me and encourage me to grow in the Lord. I joined their Sunday School class because they were teaching Revelation. The Lord answered my prayer in that classroom because Sis Hicks became my “Paul”. She was always ready to pray for me, listen to my thoughts, correct theology, and encourage me to continue seeking. Heaven is sweeter now. Earth is a little less. Thank you Sis Hicks for following hard after the Lord and allowing “youngins” like me to follow you!

I have been blessed with many role models within my family and while we didn’t share the exact same belief system I have learned so much from them over the years.
Today my sweet grandmother went home to be with her husband who passed only 3 months ago. Here is what she taught me.
1) My grandmother loved through actions. She spent a good part of her life caring for my papa at his side in both the best and worst of times. She taught me that actions speak louder than words.
2) Nanny was direct. While many struggle to communicate what they need or mean, you never had to guess with Nanny. If she thought something wasn’t right she would be the first to tell you. She taught me to speak up for the things you believe in.
3) Nanny was a fighter. Her shield was her bible and her sword her prayers. It didn’t matter if she knew you, disagreed with you or whatever the circumstances, if you were going through something Nanny would break out in prayer. Nanny taught me to trust in God when times seem impossible.
4) Nanny and Papa showed me the kind of love I deserve. The kind you see in romantic comedies but believe doesn’t exist in real life.
I am happy that Nanny can be with her love and daughter again. Happy she is no longer in pain and saddened for our families temporary loss.

So many memories, trips and cherished times with mom.
So many accomplishments could be listed of her life, but the greatest is the legacy and mark she leaves behind.
I remember from an early age hearing her prayers resonate from the living room in Florence, SC, as a child.
This was designated time and place to be alone with the Lord each day. We were not to enter during that special meeting in His presence.
I remember Bible studies, and the memorizing of scriptures each week for the following weeks to come.
These were the roots of our family tree beginning. A Godly heritage passed on from the previous generations before her.
It wasn’t until I was much older that I understood the significance of that initial foundation.
I have firsthand witnessed her tenacious faith and application to the truth of applying, standing and resting on His Word, through her steadfast faith and trust in God.
She has had many battles to fight with her daughter to leukemia, husband to esophageal and colon cancer, and lastly herself to leukemia.
Like Abraham, she staggered not at the promises of God.
It was when I was young, that I went to the altar following my sister, Kathy, and cousin, Pam to repeat a sinners prayer.
I only went because they did, and I was afraid to be left alone on the back pew. It was a true Pentecostal service, and a heavily anointed old camp meeting preacher.
As Igrew older, I went to church and paid my tithes, but I had not truly surrendered my heart to the Lord.
Yet, the roots established in my heart by my mom seemed to beacon me to that original training.
When my parents retired here many, many, years earlier, I would go to Christian conferences with mom.
We even traveled out of state on many of them. This is something she enjoyed doing, and dad didn’t want her traveling alone.
Little did I know that it was to be a divine setup!
When the conference began, it took me back to that little church that seemed radical to me.
Here in this moment, I found myself very uncomfortable again.
The first two nights of the conference, I made mom miserable. I told her that these people seemed strange. Yes, I saw people dancing, jumping down the aisles, falling in the spirit, rocking in the pews, loud wailing…
But at the same time. I saw miracles happening.
Mom knew I was under conviction, and that third night I ran to the altar to give my heart and life truly to Jesus.
Mom led me to know and follow Jesus, and she is the reason that I’m saved today.
She has taught me to never stop believing in Him, and only those who finish the race win the prize (Christ Jesus).
Anyone can start, but who can finish? This is what she instilled in her children.
She not only taught it, but she LIVED it out everyday of her life through many battles, and many victories.
It has been often said by me that we were drugged as kids.
We were drugged to church, camp meeting, tent revivals, and VBS.
Thank you mom for establishing the course before us, and for leading me to His everlasting love and light.
Your legacy lives on in your children and grandchildren!
Psalm 1:1-3 The seed planted shall continually reproduce fruit in season!
We miss you so much already, but we celebrate your promotion!

Nothing I can say would be good enough to explain what an amazing woman my grandmother was! There are so many good memories I can’t even count! I was lucky enough to have a very involved and loving grandmother! She was my happy place! I knew my whole life I could always count on her! My best memories were all of them spending time with her and getting her amazing and Godly advice! Although she was my grandmother, she was like a mother even more to me! I will carry her in my heart the rest of my life! I love you forever and always Nany!

When I was a little girl I spent most of my Sundays hiding behind a second row pew at church.I was terrified that nanny would put her hands on my head and I too would fall down. But as I grew up I learned that I wanted that same faith praying for me when times got hard. Nanny had a way of being able to speak just the right scripture to let you know that God was going use this trial or adversity for his good. She always knew just the right words to put a worried heart at ease. Even to her last days she still had a servant's heart and was always trying to teach God's word.
Her faith will be missed but now she is being reunited with papa and Kathy in heaven.

She will be missed!!! I can almost see her now shouting at the feet of Jesus. A woman above all others. Her life was exemplary. A teacher of the gospel so plain a child could understand and with depth for a seasoned Christian. What a grand reunion someday soon.
