Michael Hawley Matthews, 33, of Chattanooga died on Friday, June 15, 2012 in the company of his family and closest friends. Born in El Paso, TX, Michael resided in Chattanooga since 1988. He graduated from Hixson High School and subsequently earned a BS degree in Computer Science and a graduate degree in Criminal Justice from University of Tennessee Chattanooga. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Michael and Grace Burke of El Paso, TX and Col. Maurice H. Matthews of Hixson, TN. Surviving Michael are his parents, David H. (Cindy) Matthews of Soddy-Daisy, and Carol Burke (Lonnie Allen) Parker of Hixson; sister, Trisha Grace Matthews of Hixson; grandmother, Elaine Harrison Matthews of Hixson; his longtime girlfriend, Tiffany Doremus, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. A private lakeside memorial service will be held for Michael. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
