Obituary of Marjorie Sue Millirons
Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marjorie Sue Jaynes Millirons was born in Florence, Alabama on June 24, 1932 to Buford A. and Rhoda L. Jaynes. The middle child of three daughters, she grew up in numerous southern towns as her father, a TVA machinist, helped build dams, coal, hydroelectric and nuclear generation facilities. Her mother was an LPN. As a youth, Marjorie played basketball, was very studious, and loved the outdoors. She graduated from Coffee High School in Florence and moved shortly afterward to Chattanooga with some friends. It was at Dupont that she met Charles 'Charlie' Millirons from Geraldine, Alabama; and commenced a storybook, lifelong romance. They were married on August 25, 1957 at the Ridgedale Church of Christ in Chattanooga by Flavil Nichols. Their first home was on North Germantown Road; and they later moved to East Brainerd Road, and then off Shallowford Road. Their first child was Charles, Jr. born in 1962. While she was pregnant with their second child Timothy Jason, they built a house in a new subdivision, Holly Hills, in 1966 where they lived until their recent deaths. While Charlie worked at WRCBTV, Marjorie began to keep and teach children in their home to provide Charles, Jr. playmates. Because of its huge success, based on her pure love of children, it developed over time into a licensed center, known as the Millirons Childcare Center. The Center was so popular that parents would attempt to get on her waiting list before their child was born, and she and Charlie had to add on to their house to accommodate their need for additional space. During the Center's over thirty year existence, Marjorie educated hundreds of children, and worked tirelessly with her dedicated staff to teach and nurture them to be loving, caring, educated and successful people. She maintained contact with many of them as adults who still adoringly called her Mrs. Millirons, or Mama Millirons. Her first grandson was also a student at the center. After retiring from Channel 3, Charlie joined Marjorie in the Center, and enhanced the loving, safe environment. After closing the Center, she began a new chapter with her beloved soulmate, Charlie. Just as they had done with their own sons traveling the country exploring God's creation, she and Charlie traveled all over the world, and between their travels they lovingly helped care for their twin grandsons before they reached pre-school. She was also an avid reader of the Bible and novels, and walked miles regularly. They doted over their three grandsons, continuing to be great models of faith in God and their Savior Jesus Christ, providing examples of humility, intelligence, love of life and others, while showing grace, patience, and humor. Alongside her husband, she was dedicated to the East Ridge Church of Christ Bible Correspondence Program for over 33 years, quietly and humbly teaching hundreds of people about God's love and salvation. They were active in the Church for over three decades, including Senior Saints activities. She was an avid sports fans, particularly the UTC Mocs and the Alabama Crimson Tide, and regularly attended Alabama home football games for 15 years. Returning home after Sunday evening church service on October 17, 2010, she and Charlie collided with another vehicle. With multiple serious injuries, she fought with incredible courage, faith, beauty, grace, and strength. After Charlie was called to his eternal reward on November 10, Marjorie peacefully joined him in eternal life on November 12th, surrounded as he had been by her loving family and minister. They were inseparable for over 53 years of marriage and were reunited again for eternity. The Millirons family is very grateful to area churches, neighbors, former childcare students, the Chattanooga Scottish Rite members, Channel 3 staff, the great dedication and care of the Erlanger Hospital Surgical ICU staff, coworkers, and many others for their prayers and encouragement. Marjorie, affectionately called Mickie by Charlie, is survived by her two sons, Charles, Jr. and Timothy, daughters-in-law Sheila and Elizabeth, three grandsons, Charles Taylor, III, Charles Emory, and Harrison Taylor, all of Chattanooga, sister Myron Mitchell of Florence, Alabama, and numerous nieces and nephews. A public memorial service to celebrate the lives of Charlie and Marjorie is planned for December 4, 2010 at the East Ridge Church of Christ at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the East Ridge Church of Christ Bible Correspondence Program or the Chattanooga Scottish Rite Mercy Shoe Fund. Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Soddy-Daisy, TN. Share your memories, stories and photos at www.legacyfuneralhome.com.
