Obituary of John Charles Mitchell

John C. Mitchell, III, 61, of Soddy-Daisy, TN was born September 26, 1948. He passed away at Vanderbilt Hospital on November 4, 2009. John graduated from Central High School and The University of Alabama in Florence, Alabama. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the USAF. He retired from TVA after 28 years of service. John was an avid reader and had a passion for mission work, having served in several countries. He was a member of Mountain Creek Church of Christ. John was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Mitchell, II and Freda Parkhurst Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy C. Mitchell; sons, John Raymond, Andy (Wendy), Thomas (Callie), Ryan Stolpmann (Denise); daughter-in-law, Susan Mitchell; grandsons, Eli and Ethan Mitchell; brother, Bill (Elise); sister, Jan (Larry) Akins and close family friend Kelly Hemming. John had a special bond with his daughter-in-law, Callie, who gave him the gift of life. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Mountain Creek Church of Christ with Phil Terry and Ed Ditto officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 9, 2009 in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM-9:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home and from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday at the church building. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Creek Church of Christ Mission Fund or Clear Creek Church of Christ China Mission Fund.
