Nancy and I were deeply sadden to learn of Marion Sue's passing; however, we remember scripture tells us that we are absent from the body and present with the Lord. Our prayer is that this assurance will be very comforting to you during this difficult period. Remember God loves you and so do we.

I met Marion Sue when in the little town of Mountain City, which is the farthermost town in upper East Tennessee. She was new to the school system, and I had only been there for a year. As we sat in the fifth grade classroom I looked across the aisle and saw this new girl busily sketching with colored pencils. I whispered "You'd better not let Miss Farris see you doing that.". She just smiled and went right on sketching. Within days we became best friends. The other girls were envious when they saw us playing with paper dolls that we had created by pasting cut out heads from our school pictures onto bodies. They marveled at the houses we made, which unfolded to reveal furniture secured to the floor and walls by glue. These were all her doing. I would never have had the idea to have even thought of them on my own. By the time that we were in sixth grade we had decided to be roommates at Lincoln Memorial University, where her mother had gone. I'll never forget coming in one evening to find the pieces of her brown and white plaid suit spread out all over her bed. When I gasped and told her that she had ruined it she said that she would wear it to church the next morning, and she did. At this stage in many people's lives they drop out of church. but Marion Sue had already chosen who she would serve. for this reason you never had to worry about what she would do in any situation. If it was immoral or unethical she simply didn't do it, and couldn't understand why anybody else would either. We double dated the men that we married (My husband, Jim, says to tell everyone that we always called her Sunshine, because she radiated joy wherever she went.). We had our first children four days apart. While Jim and I stayed in one place Marion Sue and Bob traveled all over the world. We didn't see a lot of each other, but we always kept in touch. When we were fortunate enough to get together is was as if one of us had just stepped out of the room for a minute. I marveled at her home making skills and her artistic talent, but I marvel even more at her beautiful spirit. She has stepped out of the body that into Jesus' arms, where she is no longer bound by gravity and linear time. It is our loss, but she has been blessed beyond anything that we can begin to imagine.

Dear Bob, Dawn, Blake, Taylor and I were so sorry to hear about Marion Sue passing. I took a long walk by myself on Sunday with my dog Bo and spent 2 hours remembering the good times as a child that we spent at Aunt Grace's and all the kids playing outside. I remember watching my mom play those long card games and the dinners, breakfasts and celebrations we all had. At the end of my walk was the most awesome sunset. I thought how much Marion Sue would have loved it. My mom and dad were so excited when you decided to move back to Soddy. I would call every Saturday to see were everyone went to eat on Friday night and catch up on all the news. The thing I remember most about Marion Sue was her smile. She could light up a room with just her smile. Her smile was like that beautiful sunset. She will be greatly missed. Give everyone our love and we hope to see you soon. Love and prayers from the Irwins in Iowa.
