I want to express my condolences to the family. Mike was one of those individuals I always wanted to converse with longer than either of us had time for. Our paths would cross only occasionally but a constant with Mike was his passion for protecting and conserving our natural environment. A passion I, too, have. He learned I am a cyclist and fondly recollected tandem racing with his dad.

Please accept our deepest sympathies. Mike was a dear friend and coworker who will be greatly missed. We regret that we can't attend the services for Mike as we and everyone from the Trust will be conducting our yearly fund-raiser tonight. For us it will be a sad event. Please know that our hearts will be there with you and also know that we want you to call if we can be of any help all.

Mike was definitely one of the brightest parts of my day. I don't think there was a single time that I can recall that he didn't make someone laugh or smile. I miss my fellow audiophile, and have been listening to nothing but Pink Floyd for the last two days. Farewell my fellow desert rat, you will be missed by everyone that knew you, and most likely by quite a few that didn't.

To the family of mike linger, My sincerest condolences to you and you family. Your sweet mike will truly be missed at the store level. I know his job could be stressful, & no matter how many times we called, i never heard him complain- at least not to us anyway. Lol. I met mike 2 years ago when i came to work for valued services at the tahlequah branch. I remember the first time i had to talk to him i was so nervous that i was messing things up, & him setting me at ease by making me laugh. He stood out by that wonderful accent, & he laughed & said mine did too being an okie and all. When i transferred to the broken arrow branch i had to deal with alot of dsl issues & mike was so good at helping me, i started to ask for him specifically when dealing with this problem. I called so much & felt like a pain in the neck that i would always say "hey mike, did ya miss me?" he would laugh & say, "like a hole in the head." i got sick at one point & had to take a leave of absence & when i got back i of course had to call mis & have all of my passwords reinstated & i drew mike on the phone. I couldn't resist the ol' "did ya miss me?" thing. He threw me off by saying yes. I'm glad you're doing okay. One day while dealing w/ my dsl problems again my cell phone went off. My ringtone was "hey you" by pink floyd. Mike said, "oh so you're a pink floyd fan, huh?, me, too." so, that always provided us with something to chat about when ever we did get the chance to talk. I love all of the mis team, but i truly want you to know from the bottom of my heart, mike was something special. I will miss his voice & his laughter when ever i call our tech support & i will never forget him god bless his beautiful wife & the rest of his family. You are in my prayers. I would like to send my condolences to the family of Mike Linger. I am very sorry for the loss of Mike. I came to know him through work. I would often have to call the IT department to get a new employee their passwords in the company, and when ever I called the IT department, it seemed like I always got Mike on the other end and I was always so grateful. He could make me laugh so hard, I really didn't want to get off the phone with him, but knew there were other problems that were waiting on him. Mike was always so happy and pleasant when ever I got to talk with him on the phone. He never complained about anything. Mike would always be cracking a joke on the other end , and his accent made him stand out even more. I always told Mike, if I was having a bad day, he could always cheer me up. It was a pleasure to have known him and he will be greatly missed. My deepest reguards, Erica Pruitt

We were greatly saddened to hear of Mike's passing yesterday (Tuesday, June 17th). We are sorry that we were not able to make the memorial service held last night in his honor. Mike was truly one of our best friends. Although we had not seen him very often over the past two years, whenever we would talk with him it was as though no time had passed since we last talked. Mike was one of those rare people who was well informed on almost any topic. When he would stop by my office to visit me (Rardy), we would often talk for an hour about my research, or whatever he was doing in the Tennessee River Gorge. In fact I would often bounce ideas off Mike before undertaking research projects or new programs with the Tennessee River Gorge Trust. Anne and I will miss his presence at parties at our house. To Mike's family, we hope that you will keep in touch with us. Please ask us if you think we may be of some assistance. Samantha, please don't hesitate to stop by my (Rardy's) office at UTC (Holt Hall, Rm 122) should you have questions or just want reminisce about your father. I hope Jennifer and Mathew will also both feel free to contact us if you would like to talk about your father. We have fond memories of all of you the time that your family visited with us at our family home up in the mountains in North Carolina (Mathew, you were just a baby at that time). And, although we never met, we hope that Wanda will contact us when you feel the time is right. Mike had wanted to introduce us to you, but sadly the time never came. Mike will be sorely missed. But the wonderful memories of times we all had with him will be some consolation. We hope that all of Mike's family and friends will help keep his memory alive, sharing it with others to let them know how wonderful a person he was. Peace, Rardy and Anne Spratt Hixson, TN

To the Linger family: I was employed at Valued Services for almost 2 years and worked with Mike for most of that time. His sense of humor was one of my favorite things about Mike. Once he found out I could take a joke, it was on! I remember one evening we both were working the late shift and his wife came by to see him. He jokingly introduced me as the "office witch." After she left, he came back to my desk and said "You got me in trouble with my wife.... she jumped all over me for saying that." We both had a good laugh about it. I pray for your peace as you go through this time of loss. Just know that Mike was someone people liked and respected. Jackie Duncan Cleveland, TN

I am stunned and saddened by this tragic news. Mike was a leader in the environmental research/conservation arena and instrumental to the success of the Girl Scouts of Moccasin Bend Council environmental programs Eco-Island & EarthPACT. Both of these programs taught environmental lessons with a hands-on, scientific approach, touching the lives of hundreds of girls and their families with the ripple effect of unknown vastness into the future. National Girl Scout Headquarters was so impressed with EarthPACT that they awarded their highest honor to its creators, Mike & myself, and used this program as a springboard for an international environmental program in collaboration with World Wildlife. While Mike is in a better place with our Lord and Savior, my thoughts & prayers are with Mike's family & friends as he will be deeply missed by all.
