Thomas H. Alford of Soddy Daisy, age 83, died peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, January 23, 2008 with his loving wife Margie Alford at his side. Thomas was a Seaman 1st class in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was Stationed on the USS San Francisco. He fought in the battles of: Tarawa, Saipan, Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Turk Island, Aleutian Islands, and the Philippines. The USS San Francisco earned 17 battle stars during WWII and received one of three Presidential Citations awarded to cruisers. Thomas was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from Combustion Engineering after 35 years service. He is preceded in death by his mother Myrtle Painter Alford; his father, Percy Alford; sister, Evelyn Alford Hale; and brother, Frank Alford. He is survived by his wife Margie Leffew Alford, of Soddy Daisy; brother, James P. Alford of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; and several sisters-and brothers-in-law Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church, 9105 Lovell Road, Soddy Daisy, TN with Reverend Don Kelley and Reverend Walter Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends after 11:00 AM Thursday and from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
