Obituary of John Martin Heffernan

John Martin Heffernan, Jr., 81, formerly of Signal Mountain, TN, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2007 in an area health care facility. Mr. Heffernan was born in Highland Park, NJ to John and Helen Heffernan, Sr. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII who served in England and North Africa. John was a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in Business. He started his business career at Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, NJ followed by a long association with Rheem Manufacturing in Linden, NJ. He briefly worked for the marketing department at Aluminum Association, New York, NY before returning to Rheem Manufacturing as a regional sales manager, where he retired. John was known to love cars, especially Chevrolets, vintage airplanes, lighthouses, New Jersey beaches and his family. His quick wit and warm smile will be greatly missed. Surviving are his daughters, Sarah Butt of Glastonbury, CT and Judy Heffernan of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Lauren Butt of Connecticut and Jason Wilson of Delaware; and his twin sisters, Helen Cooney formerly of Signal Mountain, TN and Alice Boyd of Spring Lake, NJ as well as many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brothers, Willard and Richard Heffernan. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Friday January 4 2008, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Mike Creson officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home Expressions of Sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4413 Oakwood Dr. Chattanooga, TN 37416.
