Emmett E. Phillips, MSgt. Ret. U.S.M.C., 73, of Hixson passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007 at his residence. He served in Japan, The Mediterranean, and two tours in Vietnam during his thirty years of service to his country. He retired to Sparks, Nevada where he lived until returning to Chattanooga two years ago. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Pauline Phillips. He is survived by his son, Michael Phillips and wife Rhonda of Utah; sisters, Ruth Thompson and Mildred Boyd; brother, Winfred Phillips, all of Chattanooga; granddaughters, Melissa Bair, Nicole (Mathew) Hayes and Amy (Greg) Watkins all of Utah; great-grandchildren, Even and Andrei Bair, Gabriel and Cage Hayes; step-granddaughters, Kiri and Melissa Siler; special nephew, (like a brother) Bobby McKeel; niece and conservator, Nancy Merrell; Several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Tom Fant officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, September 5, 2007. The family wishes to express special thanks to Wellington Place, Trinity Hospice and to sitters, Lane Hall, Faye Burke, Katie Dalton and Marcia Griffith.
