Jewel Lee Pendergrass Hyder, 83, of Sale Creek went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 8, 2007 in an area hospital. Mrs. Hyder was born on November 19, 1923 to the late Thomas Jefferson Pendergrass and Edna Marie McClanahan Pendergrass and was a lifelong resident of Sale Creek. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed painting, sewing and cooking, and spending time outdoors. Jewel's greatest love was her husband and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hooper Hyder; brothers, Tom, Willard and L.H. Pendergrass; sisters, Irene Iles and Faye Kerley. Survivors include her son, Chris (Susan) Hyder of Georgetown, TN; daughters, Tammy ( Dean) Smith of Dayton, Stephanie ('Big Lou') Francisco of Soddy-Daisy; grandchildren, Sean (Lois) Blockley of Calhoun, Ga, Michael Eric (Amber) Blockley of Hixson, Katie Blockley of Sale Creek and Justin Smith of Dayton; great-grandchildren, Annese, Aidian and Arend Blockley. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday at Christ Family Church with Bishop Calvin Nunley officiating. Interment will follow in Rhea Memory Gardens. Johnny Swallows, Stacy Swallows, Eddie Romesburg, Harry Romesburg, Sean Blockley and Michael Blockley will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 3-9 today at the funeral home.
