Obituary of Dean Acomb Petty

Petty, Dean Acomb Homemaker and Community Volunteer Dean A. Petty, having recently celebrating her 82nd birthday, died on October 11, 2017, after several years of declining health. Dean was born October 6, 1935 in Chattanooga, TN. Growing up in Chattanooga, she attended City High School, class of '53, followed by the University of Alabama and the University of Chattanooga. She met her husband, Joesph H. Petty, here in Chattanooga and they had one son, Ward.. Dean was active in the Signal Mountain Garden Club, Changed Lives and was a former president of the Siskin Auxiliary. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was involved with the "Women in the Church" ministry. She is survived by her son, Ward (Nancy) Petty and grandchildren, Joseph Tyler (Sheila) Petty of Dallas, TX and Margaret Mills Petty. A graveside service will be held at Forrest Hills Cemetery on Saturday, October 14th at 11:00a.m.. A celebration of Dean's life will follow from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Mountain City Club. The family wishes to thank with sincere gratitude Michelle Shrum, Amy Boulware, Sheila Ullenberg, Ruth Harris, Pat Quarles and caregivers from Brightstar all who were committed to Dean's wellbeing in recent times. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Changed Lives or to the Siskin Children's Institute. Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
