Ruth Brown Nixon, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away July 6 at home. Born in Chattanooga on March 24, 1928, Ruth attended Girls Preparatory School and The University of Chattanooga before marrying the love of her life Leonard Nixon in 1951. Ruth and Leonard spent 35 years in Knoxville, TN where she raised her children and participated in many charitable and social organizations including board memberships of the Florence Crittenton Home and Dogwood Debutante. She was actively involved in the Chi Omega Alumni chapter, The Garderner’s Garden Club, Cherokee Country Club Ladies Golf League, and in playing bridge. Ruth and Leonard returned to Chattanooga in 1983 to live on Lookout Mountain. There, she continued her active involvement in bridge and golf as well as membership at The Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Ruth and Leonard loved their children, countless friends, and traveled the world for many years, but most importantly made life full of exciting opportunities for laughter and fun.
Ruth is adored by her husband, Leonard, and children: Nancy (Joe) Parrott of Knoxville, David (Laurey) Nixon of Atlanta, and Amy (Mike) Giudici of Atlanta; grandchildren Will (Rachel) and John (Amanda) Parrott of Knoxville, Christina (Austin) Bone of Washington D.C., and Caroline Nixon of Atlanta, and great-grandchildren: Christian Anderson and Vincent Parrott of Knoxville as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Dave Lafeyette and Cleo Tinsley Brown and her sisters: Eula Brown Ackerson Davis, Elizabeth Brown Rogers Albright, and Katie Brown Ault, all of Chattanooga, and many, many lifelong friends.
A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd Saturday, July 8 at The Church of the Good Shepherd on Lookout Mountain at 4:00 with a reception following. Special thanks and to Rennie Coulter and to Lora Baker and Kiara Dunnigan of Hearth Hospice.
