Freda Belle Jackson, 91, died peacefully at Thrive Assisted Living Center on Lookout Mountain, Georgia, on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. She loved her Lord and was faithful in sharing her testimony. Freda Belle Cross was born in 1925 in Scranton, Pa., the middle daughter of a family of eight boys and three girls. She was married to William Clyde Jackson in 1946, and they spent their honeymoon in New York City. They spent many years living and raising their family outside Scranton in a house near Hamlin, Pa., which Bill built and which they occupied for more than 60 years. Freda worked many years as a seamstress at Linden Dress of Scranton. She also enjoyed sewing at home, crocheting, crafting, baking, canning, and gardening as gifts for others and as Blue Ribbon entries in the GDS Fair. Freda was a hospitable friend to all who entered their doors, often welcoming visitors or missionaries home from Sunday morning worship even without prior notice. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six of her brothers and her older sister. She is survived by her children, Linda (Render Caines), of Ringgold; Carol (Joel Belz), of Asheville, NC; Lorraine (David Berger) of Moscow, Pa.; Paul (Sharon), of Dunmore, Pa.; 17 grandchildren, and 51 great-grandchildren. Two younger brothers, Ralph and David, and one younger sister, Sylvia Cross Graves also survive her. The family will receive friends at Grace Bible Church in Dunmore, Pa., on Tuesday, June 6, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 7, from 9 a.m. until the memorial service at 10 a.m. There will also be a memorial service later this month at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Covenant College. Local arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home & Cremation Center at the foot of historic Lookout Mountain, St. Elmo, 423 821-7551.
