Obituary of Sara Francis Johnson

Sara Francis Holleman Johnson died peacefully in her sleep at her residence on Friday morning, May 5. Affectionately known to her friends as "Bitsy", she was born on January 6, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. She graduated from Central High School and attended Winthrop College in South Carolina. She was married to the late Dr. Edward G. Johnson, and they raised their family on Missionary Ridge. She was an active member of the Missionary Ridge Garden Club, Chattanooga Medical Auxiliary and First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ed Johnson, also known as "Bubba" ; and her parents, Glynn and Lillie Smith Holleman. She is survived by her four children; Julie Richards, Edward George Johnson Jr., Sally Chazen (Gary), and Michael Andrews Johnson. Additionally, eight Grandchildren, Kate Mink (Brian), Zach Effron (Lauren), Evie Johnson, Ned Johnson (Emily), Genevieve Chazen, Lizzie Chazen, Jessica Chazen Pinter (Dylan), and Drew Johnson. And six great Grandchildren; Sara Jane Landry, Adele and Emma Effron, Georgie and Fenwick Johnson, and Henry Pinter. The family would like to give special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Iris Collins, Sylvia Jackson, Ann Kinsey, Carrie Boyd, Jesse Williams and Debra Cousin; and also recent caregivers Deborah Williams, Yvonne Lot and Ella Barron. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 9, from noon to 2 pm at Wann Funeral Home; followed by a graveside service in Forest Hills Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.
