Obituary of Olivia Elizabeth Graham Davenport

Olivia Elizabeth Graham Davenport, aged 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016. Betty was born October 30, 1918, in Chattanooga Tennessee. She lived in Chattanooga her entire life. She grew up initially in Highland Park and then on Missionary Ridge, and subsequently lived in a number of communities in the city in her 97 years. For the past 18 years, she has been a resident of the Alexian Village, on Signal Mountain. She graduated from Notre Dame High School, and attended the University of Chattanooga, leaving school to start a family prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. After raising her children, she became a Social Worker for the American Red Cross in the Vietnam War era, attending to the needs of veterans and their families. The ARC remained a fond memory for her. Betty attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help church for more than 50 years, and remained a member there after moving to Alexian. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr Landis and Mrs. Olivia Graham and her husband George Webster Davenport Sr. She is survived by her sister, Naomi Graham Burkhart, sons George W. Davenport Jr. of Signal Mountain and John Russell Davenport of Rochester, Minnesota and her daughters Adelaide Elizabeth Young of Signal Mountain and Mary Davenport Westerman of Signal Mountain. She is granny-great to seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alexian Brothers Foundation and Hospice of Chattanooga. A Memorial Service will be held at the Alexian Chapel at 11:15 AM on Thursday, October 6, 2016. She will be interred in Forrest Hills Cemetery in the Davenport family plot.
