Obituary of Sue Shanks Franklin

Sue Shanks Franklin, 81, of Soddy Daisy went to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, May 25, 2013 at her residence. She was a member of Burks United Methodist Church. Sue graduated from Ft. Sanders School of Nursing, ETSU, and received her masters degree from Drake University. She retired from TVA after many years of service. She was a giving and compassionate person which was shown through her volunteer work. She had a deep compassion for the homeless which led her to help establish Interfaith Hospitality Network at Burks United Methodist Church which is now known as Family Promises. Sue was also active in missions and had gone on many mission trips throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin. Survivors include her son, Jerome (Lisa) Franklin, Soddy Daisy; Carla (Perry) Gentry, Spartanburg, SC; Lora (Rohn) Poe, Hixson; grandchildren, Jana, Jared, Jake, Kirsten, Sarah, and Preston; brother, John (Nancy) Shanks, Jonesboro, TN; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Tuesday at Burks United Methodist Church with Rev. Roland Buck and Rev. Amy Nutt officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 PM Tuesday at the church. The family wishes to thank the extended family of caregivers, Brenda, Marilyn, Susie, April, and Delores, and Dr. Richard Sowell for the care that they extended to their loved one.
