Obituary of Leonard Harvey Brown

Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonard Harvey Brown died peacefully surrounded by family on October 10, 2024. He was 66. A Chattanooga legend, Harvey was known to his many friends and family members as “Downtown Harvey Brown,” “Moon Rocket,” and “Harbro.” He had a huge heart and gave back to the Chattanooga community in humble and kind ways no one knew. Harvey graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Centre College, where he played on the football team his senior year. Professionally, Harvey served as a broker for Empire (formerly Lookout Beverages) for more than 30 years. Known for his magic fingers, Harvey was musically gifted and loved to play the piano. From impromptu concerts for friends to the Riverbend Festival, Brass Register, and other venues, he always loved playing for a crowd. Family and friends meant the world to Harvey. His weekly rituals included watching games at the Sports Barn and spending Sundays with his mom and dad. Harvey was passionate about Dawgs football and Memphis basketball—he watched every game and didn’t hesitate to share his ups and downs as a fan on social media. Harvey’s daughter Eleanor was his pride and joy. He beamed when celebrating her academic and personal successes at Baylor High School, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine. He liked to say that his most important role was being a father to his baby girl. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Esther Brown; his brother, Allen Brown; and his brother-in-law, George Dickinson. He is survived by his loving daughter, Eleanor Brown; his sister, Sanford Dickinson; his brothers, Teddy and Huxley Brown; and his sisters-in-law Emily Brown and Rhonda Brown. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church, Lookout Mountain, Ga. Family will greet visitors at 12:30 p.m. in Shuler Parish Hall. A reception will also follow the mass in Shuler Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorials to McKamey Animal Center, the Baylor School, or a charity of your choice.
