My wife Diane and I met Wes a few years ago watching 4th of July fireworks at Holy Spirit church. We had just moved to Tennessee and Wes sat in a lawn chair near us. He was a fountain of information about the area and the local Catholic churches that he had been involved with. Wes was a great example of humble southern hospitality! I never knew him not to be a very thoughtful man that was always concerned about others, even though he had some painful health episodes before he passed. I have also never met a man that wore his faith on his sleeve like this great man. We will miss him dearly!

Q: How did you meet Wesley?
A: The first time I went to Holy Spirit Church, Wes was in the narthex and asked me if I was a Knight of Columbus. I was not. He proceeded to inform me about the Knights and what they do. Next thing I know I’m filling out a form 100. The following Wednesday he called me and told me to be at the Basilica on Saturday for an exemplification. I had to be in suit and tie was the only thing I knew. One week after meeting Wes, I was a third degree Knight. Today, I am the deputy grand knight for the council Wes helped form.
I attend church as often as I can. Wes was always there on Tuesdays and Fridays in addition to Saturday vigil. He and I chatted every time before I went in to church. Wes was one of my favorite people.
It was an honor to visit him in the hospital and to be there in hospice. I was honored to be present when Father Mike gave him the anointing of the sick, and I was honored to lead a Chaplet of Divine Mercy for him at his bedside.
I will miss hearing him say “My Lord and my God” during the Lliturgy of the Eucharist. I miss visiting with him on my way in to Mass. and I will dearly hold his memory until I can see him again.

Q: What will you never forget about Wesley?
A: Wes once told me - you don’t need to do everything, you just need to do a little bit.

When I joined the Knights of Columbus I learned a lot from Wes. He was an example of how to follow Christ's call on my life to the Knights. When I became a council Advocate he taught me how to do the job and told me it's worth it. When I became a Faithful Navigator he supported me during my term. He's a shining example for men being called by Jesus to the Knights. He will be missed. Viviat Jesus Wes and rest with your bride.
