Jo Anna Carpenter, age 98, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Wednesay, August 14, 2024. Born to Joe V. and Annie Thompson on February 22, 1926, Jo Anna lived a full and vibrant life, known for her deep love of the outdoors and her dedication to her family. A long-time resident of Chattanooga, Jo Anna attended Lookout Valley Presbyterian Church. She retired as a surgical technician from Park Ridge Hospital, a career she held with pride and dedication. Beyond her professional life, Jo Anna had a passion for collecting—rocks, arrowheads, and sand from different countries—each piece a testament to her curiosity and love for the natural world. Jo Anna was a devoted grandmother who cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She was a “big talker” and known for her lively conversations, always ready to share a memory or offer words of wisdom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gordon Carpenter; her son, Russell Gordon; and her sister, Letha Lloyd. Left to cherish her memories are her loving children, Harold Lee (Jane) Carpenter, Letha Carruth, and Lorna (Duane) Lewis. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss her dearly. Graveside services and interment will be held on Tuesday, August 20, at 11 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband. Arrangements by Wann Funeral and Cremation Center, at the foot of historic Lookout Moutain, St. Elmo. To share memories, photos or condolences please visit www.wannfuneralhome.com.
