Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois "Jeanette" Castleberry, 90, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday morning, May 24, at her home in Hixson surrounded by her loving family. Jeanette (Perry) Castleberry was born on September 27, 1932 in Winesap, TN. The daughter of Clarence and Jewel Perry, she was one of seven children. As a child she prided herself in working hard to help out on the family farm. Working in the family vegetable garden and helping her mother can the harvested vegetables provided the knowledge and skill that would continue to be a passion throughout her adult years. She attended Bledsoe County High School, where she was an excellent student and a member of the women's basketball team. Upon graduation from Bledsoe County High School, she moved to Chattanooga and began working at DuPont where she met her future husband, Ed Castleberry. Married for 68 years, together they raised two children, Greg and Karen, and were longtime members of Memorial Baptist Church and then, late in life, joined Dallas Bay Church. Her passions were her family, gardening, canning, softball, golf, cooking, baking and yard work. Always an exceptional athlete, she played softball well into her 50's, and for many years played golf with Ed 3+ times a week. Every fall Saturday you would find her watching her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide Football team, and she was an avid follower of Alabama basketball. Jeanette was preceded in physical death by her husband, Ed Castleberry; her parents, Clarence Vernon and Jewel Thomas Perry; brother, Vernon Perry; and sister, Annette Mills. Survivors include: son, Greg (Melissa) Castleberry; daughter, Karen (David) Hill; grandchildren, Lindsay (Geoff) Rutland; Katy (Nathan) Clark; Brooke Rowan; Noah Rowan; sisters, Elsie Gallaher; Jean Jollay; Judy (Dick) Brown; brother, Ernie (Sandy) Perry. In addition, she leaves behind several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family, and a host of friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to: her caregivers, Cara DeFriese and Janice McGaffic; Debbie Parker and Mia Edwards of Amedysis Hospice. These four are special people and have become a part of our family over the past year.
