Adam “Sam” Chauncey Sr, 76, of Mowbray Mountain passed away January 10th at Hospice of Chattanooga. Sam worked for DuPont and retired from the State of TN DOT. He loved his family and the mountain on which he was born, raised and spent his entire life. Sam spent countless hours watching the wildlife as they traveled through our backyard. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Samuel and Effie Mae Grant Chauncey; brothers, Berto, Claude and Grant Chauncey; sisters, Evelyn, Reba and Joy. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 46 years, Marcia Gay Cox Chauncey; son, Adam (Dr. Hannah Lively) Chauncey and their baby girl due on February 5th; daughter, Samantha (Joey) Humes of Hixson; grandchildren, Ben (Amanda) Humes, Emily Humes, and Austin (Angelica) Humes and great-grandson, Levi Humes, all of Hixson. Sister, Nellie (John Riley) McClendon, Perry (Patricia) Chauncey and Deborah Fugate, also many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to his nephew, Grant Chauncey for always being here for our family and especially through this difficult time. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 15th at Mowbray Church of God with Pastor Grant Chauncey officiating. Visitation will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital or the charity of your choice.
