Obituary of Tommy Dale Collins

Tommy Dale Collins, 73, of Hixson passed away on Wednesday, October 26th, 2022 surrounded by his family after a long hard battle with leukemia. Tommy was a 1967 graduate of Central High School where he was in ROTC and served on the Rifle Team. He was a Diesel Mechanic and worked for Peterbilt, Kenworth, Averitt, S&H Trucking, Nalley Trucks, Jenkins Truck Sales and eventually retired from Chattanooga Brick and Tile. Tommy was a member of the Strollers Car Club in the 70’s. He was a wonderful daddy, husband, and all-around good man. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Julia Collins and grandparents, Roy and Gertie Collins, and Thomas and Willie Mae Griffin. Left to cherish his memories are his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Iris Phillips Collins; daughter, Jamie (Jeff) Clayton; son, Richard (Kelly) Collins; his only grandson who was incredibly spoiled by him, Jace Thomas Clayton; sister, Teresa Collins Cross; aunt, Wanda Anderson; cousin, Deanna (Steve) Davis; his best friend who always witnessed to him, Chris Bowling; brother-in-law, Joe Phillips; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and several other family members. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bertrand Anz, the staff at Tennessee Oncology, the staff at Davenport Outpatient Infusion Center at CHI Memorial, and his God sent caregiver, Shera McCaleb. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday in Hamilton County Memorial Park with Bro. James Eggert officiating. Richard Collins, Jeff Clayton, Jace Clayton, Chris Bowling, Jacob Bowling, Thomas Smith and Taylor Cross will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 3PM until 6PM on Sunday and from 1:00 PM until the time of the graveside on Monday at the funeral home.
