Obituary of Gay Fowler

Gay Fowler, a long-time resident of Lookout Mountain, passed away peacefully August 9th in Seabrook, South Carolina, with her loving family by her side. Gay was born on June 12, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska to Walter G. and Sally Robison Zimmermann. Gay met her husband of over 50 years on a "blind date" while visiting a friend on Lookout Mountain. They were married four months later in Atlanta where her parents had moved. Theirs was an enduring and lasting love. Gay enjoyed her children and grandchildren before all else, but also loved her pets, gardening, painting, cooking and fishing amongst other pursuits. She was recognized for her many contributions to The Garden Club of Lookout Mountain. Her garden tours at her beloved Dean Hall in South Carolina were enjoyed by groups such as The Board of The Garden Club of America, Colonial Williamsburg, Winterthur and numerous others. Her hospitality was a reflection of herself as she was charming, welcoming, thoughtful, generous and a joy to be with. Gay was a loving, devoted wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was beautiful both inside and out and she will be missed greatly by her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband, Frank; two sons: Andrew "Andy" (Mindi); Weston (Liza); six grandchildren: Hope, Sarah, Lakelyn, Hayes, Hattie and Davis; and her brother Walter (Melinda). The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Friends of Caroline, Port Royal, South Carolina, especially Detra Fields, Steve Scudder and Jenna Prokopovich, as well as Dr. Lucius Laffitte and Dr. Peter Manos. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 18th, at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Avenue, Chattanooga and will be officiated by The Rev. Robert Childers, Rector, The Church of The Good Shepherd. Following the Interment, a reception will be held at Lookout Mountain Club (Fairyland), 1201 Fleetwood Drive, Lookout Mountain, Ga. for any friends who would be able to join Gay's family.
