Obituary of Sharon Butcher Evearitt

Sharon Butcher Evearitt died on December 27, 2021. Sharon was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on June 9, 1941, the third of 7 children. Growing up in a post-World War II family in poverty, Sharon was the first in her family to attend college. She graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College in 1963 with a degree in Elementary Education and was married that same year to Timothy Evearitt of Toledo, Ohio. Sharon and Tim remained married for 58 years. In their early marriage they lived in Illinois which is where all three of their children were born. They moved to Lookout Mtn, Georgia in 1979 and raised their three children out in the country on Mt. Olive Road. Sharon taught kindergarten at Gillen Elementary School, Pond Spring Elementary, Dade County Elementary, and Chattanooga Valley Elementary, from which she retired. Sharon taught piano lessons out of her home for more than 20 years and enjoyed playing piano until her death. In retirement, Sharon was an active member of many local Bible studies and prayer groups including several at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, East Ridge Presbyterian Church and Widows Harvest Ministries. Sharon was very devoted to her 9 grandchildren and was committed to their well-being. She was a fiercely committed Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Sharon lived her life for others, working hard to support others spiritually, financially, and emotionally. Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Tim, her daughters Sarah Evearitt, Shonda (JR) Evearitt Caines, and son Tad (Wendy) Evearitt. She is survived by her 9 grandchildren Richard (Slone) Cannon, Siarra (Stephen) Coleman, Emma (Jay) Caines Pannkuk, Jack Caines, Drennan Evearitt, Lou Caines, Micah Evearitt, Lila Evearitt, and Jude Evearitt and her one great grandchild, Stephen Coleman, Jr. Sharon has a sister Nancy (Joseph) Butcher Shopteese and brothers Larry and Kenny Butcher who also survive her, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Chattanooga. Memorial services will be held on Thursday December 30, 2021 at 6 p.m. at East Ridge Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. R. Caines officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Wann Funeral & Cremation Center at the foot of historic Lookout Mountain, St. Elmo.
