Obituary of James Ellis Arrowood

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Ellis Arrowood, born October 2, 1933, got his wings September 3, 2021. He was called Ellis all his life. He was a tough, hard working man known to work 3 or more jobs at a time. He was an electrician, dozer operator, and a policeman. He worked 32 years before retiring from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department as Lieutenant over Major Crimes under Sheriff Cupp. He served in the Army as well and belonged to the American Legion. He had many hobbies, including camping, wood working, and making musical instruments. He made lots of them for the kids. He loved Bluegrass music, especially the Gospel. He and his wife, Dot, enjoyed traveling to different states to Bluegrass festivals. They loved them all, but their favorite ones were the Edmons Festivals at Nine Mile, TN, Dillard’s Music Park, and Southern Breeze in Georgia. They traveled to every cave in TN but two, and they both had nightmares the night before, so that was the end of visiting caves. After retiring, Ellis delivered cars for many years, traveling from Chattanooga to wherever they needed to go until he could no longer work. You would think he never had time to do anything other than work, but he loved it all. He was a member of Sequoyah Baptist Tabernacle on Daisy Dallas Rd. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Faye Arrowood, and two sisters, Dorothy Southerland and Irene Rowland. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Doris "Dot" Arrowood, his son, James Robert Arrowood, and daughter, Lisa Arrowood . He is also survived by three stepsons, Randy Doss, Ricky Doss, and Wayne Doss. Also, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank everyone who helped during this journey of illness. A big appreciation to Home Health Care and all who came out, and to Hospice for so much care, as well as the nurses’ help and advice. There are too many to name, but you know who you are. A special thank you to the Chaplain who came and prayed and sang his favorite songs. . Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021 in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dr. Brooks Green officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM - 3:00PM on Friday at the funeral home. Please observe social distancing and wear masks during all services.
