Glenn Charles Griner of Lookout Mountain, Georgia and Somerset Center, Michigan died Friday, May 21, 2021 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.He was born January 18, 1954 to Dr. Charles Francis Griner and Janette Adele Barnes Griner in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering cum laudefrom the University of Michigan in 1976, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1978. He started his career as an engineer with Tecumseh Products Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He retired from General Motors as director of the Advanced Technology Center in Torrance, California. His experience included working on the 4T80E transmission for Cadillac, the twomode hybrid and extended range electric vehicles, among many others. He enjoyed his work as an expert witness for Wilmer Hale. He also held several patents. On December 30, 1978 he married Ellen Blanche Hicks at Second Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Blanche Hicks and his daughter Kelley Blanche Griner and son-in-law, Stephen Richard Splude of Rockford, Michigan. He was eagerly awaiting the arrival of their child, his first grandchild, in October. He is survived by his sister Barbara Griner Dolak(Norm Dolak ) Granger, Indiana, sister Linda Presser(Ed Glysson) Indian Wells, California, and brother Neil Griner(Karen Griner), Hagerstown, Maryland. He is also survived by three cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Glenn was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee. The memorial service will be Thursday, May 27th, at 2:00 pm, ET, from Second Presbyterian Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Interment will be private in Michigan.
