I played under Coach Neely for 3 years in volleyball and basketball. She was always there guiding us not only on the court but in the classroom...grades were VERY important to her. She was instrumental in helping me secure a basketball/volleyball scholarship to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I was the first one in my family to attend college and that meant the world to my parents. She leaves a long legacy of wins but more importantly, she leaves a long line of memories with those whose lives she touched. Thanks Coach, you done good.

It is hard to know where to start. Being classmates of Kat at Hixson, Class of 1960, a lot of fond memories will be remembered. Her father, "Tooter", drove the team bus to all our football and basketball games. I can still remember the smell of his cigar. Our class had several reunions, which Kat worked on tirelessly and faithfully to have a great time. Our 50th was one to remember. With only 60 classmates, we have now lost, that we know of, 20. The virus has messed up our 60th anniversary, but we will always remember Kat. Because of health reasons, we cannot attend the services today, but know that we will keep the family in our prayers. Catherine was my teacher and my colleague. She worked tirelessly to enhance the lives of those who she taught. She was an example of one who expected the best from all those she taught and worked with. She expected no less of herself. She will truly be missed.

It is with great sadness that we have lost a truly great friend, teacher and colleague. Catherine was an awesome girl's coach and a mentor and teacher to everyone. Working with her on the ERHS Athletic Hall of Fame was a great pleasure. My husband worked with her at ERHS and they were always working on something-she had him fixing all her broken equipment. There will never be another Catherine Neely big shoes to fill. RIP Catherine your work on earth is done fly high and give Pat Summitt a big hug and high five from us Vol Fans. I was a student at East Ridge (class of 2000). She coached so many of my friends. She was a legend even then. She was East Ridge High School.
I only had a few interactions with her. One evening I lost a close wresting match. The next morning she came up to me in the office, patted me on the back, and said, "You did good last night Justin." I was surprised she even knew my name.
When I was a sophomore my PE 2 class was playing volleyball in the gym. She was watching from above with Coach Baker. After I made a big play I loudly proclaimed to her I was too pretty for her team and to not be thinking of inviting me onto it. She laughed.
She influenced so many women in my community. It's pretty fascinating to see her impact in our city and state. I know many of her athletes became family and successful women in their own right. She changed lives. Winning can be coached.. and you can win in sports but even more in life.
She was the Pat Summitt of East Ridge/Chattanooga.
Rest in peace Coach Neely. Thank you for your legacy and inspiration.

To the Neely Family: I attended East Ridge High School for only about 5 months (around 1968) and Catherine Neely was my physical education teacher.
