Bernard C. Gloster Bernard C. Gloster, Sr. Bernard C. Gloster, Sr., 79 of Hixson, TN passed away on March 26, 2020. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and moved to Chattanooga in the early 1940's. Bernard grew up in the Brainerd area. After graduating from Chattanooga City High School in 1960, Bernard was a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard before joining the U. S. Air Force and was stationed at Cannon Air Force base in Clovis, NM. After being discharged from the Air Force, he began his career in Law Enforcement at the Clovis Police Department, being assigned to traffic duties as a motorcycle officer. In 1965, Bernard joined the Chattanooga Police Department as a motorcycle officer. While working for the C. P. D. Bernard earned degrees from Cleveland State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He also instructed Criminal Justice classes at both colleges during his off duty hours. During Bernard's career, he was promoted through the ranks, assigned to traffic division as a motorcycle officer with the departments "Black Widow Motor Squad, community relations, police personnel, training, investigative, and patrol divisions. His career was never boring, was very challenging and rewarding. He held past membership in the Tennessee Association and International Association of Chiefs of Police. Bernard truly loved police work and retired in January 2000 as a Deputy Chief. Bernard and his family lived in the city of Lakesite, Tennessee (1975-2004) and were active in the community. He served as Vice Mayor for four years and as Mayor for twelve years. Lakesite saw many changes while Bernard was Mayor. The City bragged about the lowest property tax rate than other area cities. Bernard was involved in the construction of a new City Hall, saw the population double and business area growth while mayor. After retiring, Bernard bought a Harley Davidson Ultra and a Harley Fatboy. He and Linda enjoyed their many trips and years of biking experiences. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur S. and Ann Gloster, Sr. and son, Bernard Gloster, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Linda Green Gloster, son, Brian, brother, Arthur S. (Pam) Gloster, II, daughter, Katherine (Charlie) Knight, daughter, Virginia Gloster, granddaughter, Tammie (Ty) Skiles, granddaughter, Samantha Knight, great-grandaughters, Hannah and Allie Skiles, sister-in-law, Carol Rippetoe and brother-in-law, Bill Green. Special thanks to the offices and staff of Mountain View Hospice, especially George and Faedra, Dr. Ted Arrowsmith, Dr. Jeff Mullins and Dr. Jeff Colburn. A special thanks to all his friends that made his life so enjoyable: Chattanooga Police Department, City of Lakesite, Valleybrook Golf Club, White Lightning Harley Davidson, the Tuesday lunch bunch three amigos, Duncan Donuts coffee bunch, the Sports Barn workout crew and all the friends and relatives that kept his spirits high. He wants to be remembered by each of you celebrating his life that he lived and not mourned at death.
