Obituary of Lou Odom Oliphant

Lou Odom Oliphant, 89, of Signal Mountain, died Friday, January 3, 2020. She was born in Knoxville, TN to Lyda Wilson Odom and Benjamin (Bill) Hubert Odom. The family moved to Chattanooga in 1931. She was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and the University of Tennessee where she was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity.
Mrs. Oliphant was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Signal Mountain, where she taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees throughout the years. She was the first woman to serve on the Signal Mountain Planning Commission where she was secretary for 28 years. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Chattanooga and a past member of the Signal Mountain Community Guild and was recognized by the Guild as Signal Mountain Woman of the Year in 1988.
Mrs. Oliphant was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, G. William (Bill) Oliphant; sister, Sue Odom Scott; and parents, Lyda and Bill Odom. She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Lou (Phillip) Goff of Crossville, TN and son, Edward (Resha Craven) Oliphant of Smyrna, TN; granddaughters Rachel Goff, Meredith Goff, and Corinne Oliphant; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Forest Hills Cemetery, the Reverend Derrick Hill officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Wann Funeral Home 4000 Tennessee Avenue prior to interment. Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
The family would like to thank Alexian Village Assisted Living and HealthCare facilities staff members for the care they provided. Special heartfelt gratitude goes to Gina Konsavage of Signal Mountain, for her daily assistance, care, and loving friendship she shared with Mrs. Oliphant for the last 3 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church Signal Mountain Building Fund, 630 Mississippi Avenue Signal Mtn., TN 37377; the Residents' Scholarship Fund 437 Alexian Way Signal Mtn., TN 37377, or the Chattanooga Tennessee Chapter of the American Heart Association 519 East 4 th Street Chattanooga, TN 37403.
