Obituary of Mildred Guerry Pollock

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mildred Guerry Pollock, age 93, of Lookout Mountain passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2019.

She was born in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii to parents who had emigrated to Hawaii from Portugal. She was the youngest of 8 children. Her parents emigrated to Hawaii with the Catholic Missionaries and she remained throughout her lifetime, a devout Catholic.

During World War II, when Pearl Harbor occurred, she fell in love and married John Kemp Jr. who brought her to Lookout Mountain as a young bride of 22. She retained her island ways of healthy foods and exercise and delighted in meeting new people and making new friends. She also loved a good laugh and would look to the bright side of life at every opportunity.

She was a very accomplished tennis player representing the South in the US Open Mother-Daughter Championship Tournament. Racquetball was also her sport and she won the Women’s National Senior Racquetball Championship as a last-minute write-in to fill the draw.

Millie entered into life with a positive attitude and a never give up style. She was loved by many and was widowed twice during her lifetime. She was married to Alex Guerry Jr. and John T. Pollock.

Millie is survived by her daughter Cindy Kemp Battle and grandchildren Miranda Kemp Light, and James Randolph Light.

Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18th.

Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home & Cremation Center, at the foot of historic Lookout Mountain. 4000 Tennessee Avenue, Chattanooga (423) 821-7551
