Obituary of Marcia Huff Guilbert

Marcia Huff Guilbert, 84, died peacefully at home at the Terrace at Mountain Creek on Friday, December 28, 2018 with her family at her side. Born April 4, 1934 in Park Ridge, Illinois, Marcia was the daughter of Hugo H. and Beulah Mills Huff and the widow of the late Gordon MacKenzie (Tom) Guilbert, Jr. She was a graduate of Maine Township High and Michigan State University where she was active in the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority. She met her husband at Michigan State University and they married in 1955. They later moved to Atlanta where he became a CPA. Moving to Lookout Mountain in 1962, both became active in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia Huff Wilson, and her husband Gordon MacKenzie Guilbert, Jr. Survivors include Julie G. Guilbert and her partner Sandy Needham of Whidbey Island, Washington, Catherine G. Lawrence and husband Robert Lawrence of Lookout Mountain, Virginia L. (Ginger) Guilbert of Chattanooga, Gordon MacKenzie (Trip) Guilbert III and wife Jean Collins Guilbert of Atlanta, grandsons Michael MacKenzie Guilbert and Christopher Collins Guilbert of Atlanta, and niece Rebecca Wilson Ewton and husband Tad Ewton of Ringgold, GA.

 

Mrs. Guilbert became active in the Episcopalian Churchwomen (ECW) locally and Diocesan, the Judge David Campbell DAR Chapter, the Hunter Museum Volunteers where she became President of the Associate Board, member and Treasurer of the Huguenot Society of Tennessee, Woodland Garden Club, Friday Study Club, and served on the Orange Grove Residential Committee. Marcia was a loving and optimistic person who befriended people from all walks of life and will be remembered for her bright eyes and smile.

 

Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Lookout Mountain on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 3:30 pm with the Rev. Robert T.J. Childers, Rector officiating. Interment will follow in the Harriet Caldwell Memorial Garden. Family will receive friends at 2:30 pm for an hour prior to the service in the John Talbird Hall.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orange Grove Center, Chattanooga Community Kitchen, The Church of the Good Shepherd and Hospice of Chattanooga.
