Obituary of Irene Sanders McCown

Irene Sanders McCown, widow of Dr. Robert S. McCown, DDS, passed Saturday, August 25th in her Atlanta apartment. She was 95 years old. She was the daughter of Sherman and Irene Sanders and the granddaughter of Newell Sanders of Lookout Mountain.
Irene was a graduate of Indiana University and worked in New York city as a buyer at the Saks Fifth Avenue store. She later returned to Chattanooga and resided on Missionary Ridge. She was an active member and past president of the Junior League of Chattanooga, member of the DAR, Chickamauga chapter for 75 years, past president of Missionary Ridge Garden club and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her three sons, Robert S. McCown, Atlanta, GA, Dr. Thomas McCown, Chapel Hill, NC, William E. McCown, Birmingham, AL, six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, the Chattanooga Zoo or the DAR, Chickamauga Chapter.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 1st from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Wann Funeral Home, Chattanooga, TN.
A family graveside service will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery
Pallbearers are Sanders McCown, Andrew McCown, Chris Curfman, and Patrick Lancaster.
