I went to school with Mike for three years at Notre Dame and one thing I came away with was this: If you wanted any sports information, Mike was the go-to guy.
Mike had an almost encyclopedia-like mind when it came to sports statistics and personal data about the players. I remember his love for Notre Dame in particular, and in those days in the late 50s the Irish were in crash mode and Mike took a lot of ribbing from some students in stride, consistent with his easy-going, friendly demeanor.
I left Chattanooga many years ago and only saw Mike a couple of times. And he was, as usual, right on top of the sports world. I'll never forget his trip to Baltimore to visit with me briefly.
Rest easy Mike....you will be missed.
