Obituary of Gilbert B. Morris

Gilbert "Uncle Gil" Morris, Jr., 92 of Lookout Valley died Saturday, April 5, 2014. The son of the late Gilbert, Sr. and Annie Morris he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Morris, and brothers, Richard, Claude, Robert, and Tommy Morris. Gil was a longtime member of Lookout Valley Baptist Church. He retired from the United States Army after 25 years of service. Gil began his service during World War II serving in the European Theater where he received a purple heart in France, as well as a bronze star and numerous meritorious campaign medals. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Survivors include his sons, Ed (Judy) Whitehouse, Lookout Valley, James (Kathy) Morris, Sr., Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Larry (Wendy) Morris, Jr., Kem (Rich) Graham, Kevin (Laura) Morris, Jena (Charlie) Passut; great grandchildren, Alex, Zachary, Charles, and Ethan Morris, Joe and Jacob Graham, Charlie and Jamie Passut; special friend, Patti Saunders, Ringgold; and nephews, Allen and Bubba Fryar. Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM Wednesday at National Cemetery with Darrell Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 PM Wednesday at Wann Funeral Home.
