Obituary of Theodore Franklin King
Please share a memory of Theodore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Theodore Franklin King, Jr. (Ted) joined his Savior in heaven Wednesday morning, June 1. A lifetime resident of Chattanooga, he was born to Theo F. and Hilda Hager King on August 9, 1932. His older sister Carol King Baker also preceded him in death.
Ted was a proud graduate of both McCallie School (1950) and Vanderbilt University (1954) and faithfully attended his class reunions and many sporting events. He later served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict.
Ted began his insurance career at Provident Life Insurance. He then joined Trotter, Boyd and Keese, which became AGA. He spent his happiest years as a partner in Huffaker Insurance, from which he later retired. He was proud to provide home visits as part of his service to his clients. He was also very involved in the Chattanooga community, serving with Rotary International and United Way and also on many local boards. He was in all respects a gentleman.
Ted’s faith was very important to him. He attended First Presbyterian Church until early adulthood. Following his marriage, he joined Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, where he served as usher and deacon and sang in the sanctuary choir. He faithfully attended services until just prior to his death.
Ted was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances (Bunny), in November, after 52 years of marriage. He is survived by his much-loved daughters, Hilda (Marshall) Jemison, of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, and Ashley (Bob) Scoggins, of Huntsville, Alabama. Five grandchildren also survive him: Sarah, Ryan and Sydney Scoggins, of Huntsville, and King and Bo Jemison, of Lookout Mountain.
The family wishes to thank Caris Hospice and Bright Star for their exemplary service to our parents. We especially acknowledge Pep, Patty, Sarah, Cheryl, Moses and Bill from Bright Star and Lee Ann from Caris.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, followed by a private burial. The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to McCallie School or to Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church.
