Obituary of Harlan Addison Mills
Please share a memory of Harlan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harlan Addison "Bud" Mills Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 11th, 2016. Born in 1929 in Lansing MI, to Harlan A. Mills Sr. and Elizabeth Kemp (Mills), he grew up in Michigan with his brother Jack Mills (deceased) and sister Jill Mills Rueber. He served in the United States Air Force and later graduated from Michigan State University. In 1957, he married Nancy Elizabeth Moore of Park Ridge IL, and in 1963 they settled on Lookout Mountain GA. During over 30 years in business he assumed a number of executive management positions within Greater Chattanooga. In 1973, he was among the visionaries who transformed the Terminal Railroad station to create the Chattanooga Choo-Choo hotel and restaurant complex, one of the first revitalization projects in Downtown Chattanooga. His love for the city was demonstrated by his participation in such local organizations as Orange Grove, Chattanooga Community Kitchen, and CADAS.
Bud was a longtime member of the Church of the Good Shepherd on Lookout Mountain. His passions were his family, his friends, and nature. He was a member in good standing with the 3-5 Brotherhood, a charter member of the Lookout Mountain Gourmet Club, and a supporter of the Tennessee River Gorge Trust.
He is survived by his sister Jill Rueber of Kalamazoo MI, preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, and survived by his children Julie (Mark) Miller, Harlan (DeeDee) Mills, Lisa (George) Liounakos, Robert (Caroline) Mills, and Jennifer (David) Hardy; by his grandchildren Johnny and Jason Miller, Christopher and Ryan Mills, Rachel and Arthur Mills, and Theo and James Hardy; and by his special love, June. Services will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Tuesday, March 29th, 4:00pm, with visitation at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to support the Tennessee River Gorge Trust.
