George Walter Gochenour, Jr., 47 of Hixson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. George was born in Woodstock, Virginia. He graduated from Hixson High School in 1987. He was an Eagle Scout and was employed with Red Food Stores, Bi-LO, and Food City for 31 years. He was a huge Tennessee Volunteer and NASCAR fan and loved being with his buddies especially his best friend, David Smartt. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Leila Gochenour and Frederick Oden. Survivors include his parents, George and Jane Gochenour, Hixson; sisters, Gwen (Jeff) Parrott, Georgia, Frances (Jim) Thompson, Hixson; nieces, Cierra Walker, Tennessee, and Mackinzie Parrott, Georgia; grandmother, Margaret Oden, Virginia; and other family members in Virginia. A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 P. M., Saturday, January 30, 2016 in the chapel of Legacy Funeral Home with Rev. Reed Shell officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 P. M. Saturday at Legacy Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy-Daisy (423) 843-2525.
