Obituary of Ronald Ray Ellison

Ronald Ray Ellison, 69, of Soddy Daisy passed away October 25, 2015 after a short fight with cancer. Ron was born on July 20, 1946 in Decatur, Il to Keith & Ettabelle Ellison. After graduating from MacArthur HS, Ron volunteered with the Marine Corps and proudly served his country for two tours in Vietnam as a radio operator. He returned to the States in 1968 and worked at Kentucky Lithograph where he met Sherry Sue Sloan, who later became his wife of 46 years. Ron moved on to a position with General Telephone as a lineman and worked for 28 years in various line and management positions in Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana. Ron retired and he and Sherry moved to Florida. It wasn't long before he was bored with retirement and took a job delivering auto parts for O'Reilly. After a few years he transferred to Soddy Daisy, TN where he has lived with Sherry for nearly 12 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; Daughter Donna Curtis and her husband Larry, of IL; Son Brian Ellison and his wife Lisa, of AZ; Son Aaron Cole and his wife Heather, of GA; Daughter Ronda Tranter and her husband (and Ron's best friend) Jim; along with 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; brother Craig Ellison and wife Pam; and brother Doug Ellison and wife Debbie all of Decatur. Ron made friends everywhere he went and will be missed terribly by everyone who knew and loved him. Graveside services will be at 1:30 P. M. Friday, October 30, 2015 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with military honors. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
