Obituary of Dorothy Rigsby Walker

Dorothy Rigsby Walker, age 89, passed away Sunday, October 25th peacefully at home surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Charles H. Rigsby and Florence (Weeks) Rigsby. She was preceded in death by son Garnett Richard Walker; her parents; brothers Carl, Harold, Howard; and sisters Flora Pollard, Mildred Ingram, and Agnes Beane. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Garnett F. Walker; daughter Sandra (Cliff) Cress, daughter-in-law, Mary Wyrick, sons Barry (Sharon) Walker, Randy (Penny) Walker, five grandsons, three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Johnston. She was a loving wife, and a dedicated homemaker and mother. She especially enjoyed loving on babies, big band music, and a good practical joke. Her Christmas baking was legendary among her friends and family. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Soddy-Daisy and Wednesday from 1 until time of service at 2 p.m., also at First Baptist Church of Soddy-Daisy. Dr. Seton Tomyn will be officiating with Dr. Ed Briggs delivering the eulogy. Pallbearers will be Sean Walker, Ryan Cress, Dustin Walker, Jordan Walker, Nick Walker, and Dave Johnston. Interment will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Welcome Class of First Baptist Church, Soddy-Daisy. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Chattanooga , Caregiver-Johnnie Stewart, Hospice Nurse-Larry Johnson, CNA-Shauna Dillingham, Social Worker-Karen Hubbard, and Hospice volunteer- Kathy Maxwell.
