Obituary of Henry Ward Stevens

Rev. Henry Ward Stevens, 84, of Flintstone, Georgia went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 4, 2013. Rev. Stevens was born in 1928 in Indiana and grew up both in Indiana and California. He served in the United States Navy in the late 1940’s. He graduated from Columbia Bible College in 1956 and from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va., in 1963. Rev. Stevens served as a pastor to Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Chesapeake, Va., from 1963 to 1978. In 1979 he began serving Covenant College as a carpenter, retiring in 1996. While living in the Chattanooga area, he has served his Lord in several churches as an elder and interim pastor. His tender heart, humble spirit and faithful service have been an encouragement to many people over the span of his life. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Stevens; his three children, Colleen Stevens, Eugene Stevens and Terri Ray; six grandchildren, Hannah Ray, Benjamin Ray, Sarah Stevens, Jim Stevens, David Stevens and Ginny Stevens; and younger brother, John Stevens. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8, in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Cal Boroughs officiating. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, at St. Elmo Presbyterian Church, 4400 St. Elmo Ave. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elmo Presbyterian Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home, St. Elmo.
