Obituary of Elaine Lasley O'Dell

Elaine Lasley O’Dell, a lifetime resident of Lookout Mountain, TN, died November 19, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Marshall Lasley and Augusta Allison Lasley, her husband, John Edward O’Dell III, her son, John Lasley O’Dell and her daughter, Lauren O’Dell Ling.
She is survived by her daughters, Anne O’Dell Faulk, Betsy O’Dell Scanlan (Bill), Kate O’Dell Bailey (Joey) and nine grandchildren: Thomas O’Dell, Cameron O’Dell, Logan Ling, Hamilton Faulk, Kingsley Brock, John Brock, Kate Brock, Betsy Bailey and Will Bailey and two great-grandchildren, Malley and Dawson Faulk. Assisting in her care was Francis Martin, who has been a part of the O’Dell family for almost 65 years.
Elaine was a Bright School graduate. She attended Ashley Hall in Charleston, SC and graduated from Rosemary Hall in Baltimore, MD. She attended the University of Chattanooga. She was active for four decades in the United States Tennis Association, working for the benefit of junior players. She was the National Women’s and Men’s RankingChairman as well as the National Juniors RankingChairman for the girl’s 16’s and 18’s. She served on the Board of Directors for the Chattanooga Tennis Foundation from 1995 to 2011. She was Past President of the Chattanooga Tennis Foundation from 2009-2011. She was a member of the Chattanooga Junior league as well as a Sunday School Teacher at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she was a member as well as an E.F.M. graduate and Eucharistic lay minister.
Her other hobbies included attending her weekly Enneagram Class at the Church of the Good Shepard for over 10 years. Additional activities included overseeing her blueberry farm in Thomasville, Georgia and playing duplicate bridge with her lifelong friends.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. The burial will be graveside at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Avenue, Friday, November 22 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Book of Remembrance @ St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
