Obituary of Mary Porter Stiles

Mrs. Mary Porter Stiles 89, of Chattanooga, formerly of Paris, TN, died November 18th. She was the daughter of the late Mary Bolling and Dudley Porter Sr., former Paris attorney. She was a descendant of the late James D Porter, Governor of Tennessee and the Great-granddaughter of the late JDC Atkins. Mrs. Stiles worked as a legal secretary in Nashville for many years where she met and married Charles H Stiles. They later moved to Memphis where he died in 1959. Mary was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Paris where she sang in the choir. She loved her Lord and served Him in many ways with her beautiful voice. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dudley Porter, Jr., an attorney in Chattanooga. Mary was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames of th 17th century, Daughters of American Colonists, a former member of Janusete Delphian Club and a former member of Paris Garden Club. Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church 10:30-11:30, with graveside service at 11:45 at Maplewood cemetery. Dr. Robert Martin will officiate. Survived by long time family friend and caregiver, Fred Joyce and lifelong friend, Anne Crosswy. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First United Methodist Church, Paris, TN.
